Tired of Waiting for Change?

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

Like you, I’ve seen the protesters carrying signs that read “I Can’t Breathe,” and like you… I have been holding my own breath…waiting…waiting…waiting… for justice to prevail, waiting to be seen, I mean truly seen. Not as “one of the good ones,” or “one of the successful ones,” or someone who will help me check off a couple of boxes on a diversity and inclusion list. But, as Kimberly – a black woman, who is successful, who is a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a godmother, a friend, a Christian, an ally, a leader, an author, a coach, a neighbor, a Board member – and who is unapologetically black.

You don’t have to be any of this descriptors to show compassion or solidarity, you just have to be human.

Everyone, and I mean everyone in the world is feeling some of the same stressors due to COVID19, but the earth continues to turn, black men and women are still being murdered, Hispanics are still being detained like animals, hate and blame continues to be spewed from the highest levels of government and I am tired and frustrated, but I am not dismayed.

I still believe in the human spirit. I know that the actions of a few, no matter what mask, badge or clothing they wear, no matter what they stand for or behind, can overtake the greater GOOD.

We are better than that. People from all backgrounds, nationalities, income structures are coming together. We are raising the standard so that all people, no matter the individual descriptors, can live to our highest potential. This is mantle I chose to wear. So as disruptions eat away at all we hold dear, I am taking this time to fuel my passion. I will turn the negativity and nonsense into new opportunities and open conversations. The virus that were fighting is one thing and the virus of hate and racism is another. Both can be and I believe will be won by those who take up the mantle.

I encourage you to dig deep, step in the waters that have already been stirred, and find your footing. Better yourself for not just you, but for your community, your tribe – our tribe. I invite you to use the Motivational Muse platform as a forum to share what you’re doing during To this time of crisis and chaos to spread peace, love, compassion, and education.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…we’re all in this together, because we truly are.

This is Kimberly and I am the Motivational Muse, providing a space for you to drive change in the world.
